Unknown Bagpipes - Not surprisingly, we may never know the origin of some bagpipes.  More often than not makers did not leave identifying marks.  Turners sometimes made bagpipes for multiple makers or made bagpipes on the side. Sometimes they left and set up shop for themselves.  All the while they took their personal preferences and skills with them. Without hard evidence as to a particular maker, we can only add up the various clues and make an educated guess.  The following bagpipes are all interesting.  Their identities remain unknown.

Click here for a short essay on early bagpipe making and how it might have evolved.

Bagpipe Measurements - I started this project without really having a template or outcome in mind.  I'm now in the process of putting the numbers into an Excel worksheet.  I've given each tab a maker's name and it is my intention to have several sets of measurements for each maker.  I'll try to identify each set of measurements by indicating the year of the bagpipe or any other helpful information.  If you'd like to contribute, please send measurements to me along with a few pictures of your bagpipe. Click on the link above to go to the Measurements page.
