Bagpipe Measurements - This is a one-clicker! Simply right click on the image to the right and
select "save target as" to download an Excel Worksheet. A separate tab (spreadsheet) has been assigned
to each maker. This enables us to document several bagpipes by the same maker. This will be expanded
as I am able to get to this onerous task. Only measurements from out-of-production bagpipes will be
published.
There are many challenges in taking measurements from old bagpipes. There is no such
thing as a perfectly round bore. You will get slightly different readings by moving the caliper even
slightly within the bore. Next, there is a certain degree of shrinkage in the wood that occurs in every
bagpipe after it's manufacture. Image what 100 years will do! Then, there's always the possibility
that the bores have been polished or rebored at one point or another. So we're left to deal with what
we have and to draw our conclusions from the clues at hand.

Imperial Standard measurements are standard within the industry (then and now) and all measurements
are expressed as such.
I started this project and soon discovered that there would probably
be no end to it. Measurements vary from set to set and from piece to piece. Interestingly, even measurements
in those Glen bagpipes with brass linings vary greatly.

Measurements for the following bagpipes are currently represented on the spreadsheet. I would be pleased
to receive measurements from your bagpipe.
