James Hutcheon was born in Edinburgh in 1823. He first appeared in the classified directory in 1856
as a turner. His son, William, apparently followed in his footsteps. They may have sold the business,
because in 1911 the listing is for Hutcheon and Smith. The following year there is a listing for James
Smith, bagpipe maker, successor to J and W Hutcheon.
