No more Trailing Drones!!!  There is no question that the Ross Canister System has greatly improved moisture control of our bagpipes.  One of the challenges of playing the system has always been cut-offs.  The gizmo pictured below is simple and inexpensive to make and will greatly improve control of starts and stops.

Cut a rubber disc from a tire tube.  It should be slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the connecting hose.  Thread a length of elastic thread through the disc, penetrating through the bottom and then looping back through the top.  You will be left with two threads, which you will cut to about 4 inches in length.  Next, insert these threads into the top of the black plastic nozzle on your canister.  secure the threads at the bottom of the nozzle base using tape.  The tension on the thread should be sufficient to hold the disc against the nozzle top.  When air is blown through the system, the disc will open and air will pass through to your drones.  When the supply of air is lessened, the elastic will return the disc atop the nozzle and your drones will stop.  No more trailing drones!
