MacDougall – The Walking Stick

I like to mix things up just a bit on Thursdays. I had fully intended to make this post on “stocks” and the various factors that impact sound and performance. That idea got pushed aside late last night when I received a very interesting email from Scotty at Gannaway Pipe Bags. An unusual item came into the shop that I think you’ll find interesting. Without going into detail here, follow this link to MacDougall Aberfeldy – The Walking Stick.

Hi Ringo, you may have forgotten that I have an identical Gavin MacDougall cane which belonged to Gavin himself. I bought it in a lot of MacDougall chanters from Duncan’s and Gavin’s collection sold by Bonham’s years ago. I am thrilled that there is another specimen since my cane is missing the mouthpiece and tube. Could you ask for a better picture? What is it made of? Thanks, cheers, Andreas

I don’t know that I was aware of this however it’s great to know. I’ll send you a series of high resolution images of this chanter and by all mean, reach out to the good folks at Gannaway. I really don’t have any more information than what I’ve published. It would be interesting to compare the two walking sticks to see how they compare.
